Project Overview

The Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) is a pioneering institution established in New Delhi, India, with the backing of the Government of India and as an integral part of UNESCO. As the first and only Category 1 Research Institute in the Asia Pacific region, MGIEP is dedicated to advancing Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4.7, focusing on education to foster peaceful and sustainable societies. In 2012, the organization adopted a logo inspired by the iconic symbol of Gandhi Ji, “the Charkha”. In 2021, the institute embarked on a logo redesign project to enhance its visual identity, aiming for simplicity, prominence, and versatility across various communication platforms.

Problem Statement

While the existing logo of MGIEP embodied the essence of Gandhi Ji’s philosophy and the organization’s mission, it faced challenges in terms of visual complexity and adaptability. The intricate design made it less suitable for modern digital communication channels and diverse applications. Thus, there was a need to reimagine the logo to better reflect the institute’s values, strengthen its visual presence, and ensure seamless usage across different mediums.

Our Approach

The redesign of MGIEP’s logo was approached with a focus on simplification, prominence, and versatility. The design team aimed to create a unified visual identity by integrating the logotype and the symbol into a single cohesive unit. By intertwining the elements, the new logo achieved visual solidity and conveyed a sense of simplicity and strength. Emphasis was placed on retaining the essence of Gandhi Ji’s philosophy while ensuring that the logo could be easily recognizable and adaptable across various platforms and communication materials. Through careful design considerations and iterative refinement, the new logo represents a modern interpretation of MGIEP’s mission and values, reinforcing its commitment to peace, sustainability, and inclusive education.
