Project Overview

In collaboration with UNESCO and Royal Enfield, the project aimed to document and promote India’s rich Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) practices, particularly in the Himalayan region. The initiative, amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, sought to bolster sustainable tourism and community resilience through the preservation of cultural traditions.

Problem Statement

The COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted sustainable tourism and community-based initiatives in the Himalayan region, threatening the preservation of its diverse cultural heritage. In response, UNESCO and Royal Enfield sought to develop a project that not only highlights the significance of intangible cultural practices but also fosters community resilience and sustainable tourism in the face of ongoing challenges.

Our Approach

The project team delved into the intricacies of India’s cultural heritage and the Himalayan region’s identity, conceptualizing the theme “Winds of Change.” Inspired by the boomerang’s symbolism, helmets and tanks were intricately illustrated with themes from Hanley to Sikkim. Detailed handwork captured cultural stories and natural beauty, fostering community pride and resilience in preserving heritage amidst change.
